Inter House Sports Meet - St Mary's Secondary School

Hi,

Remember St Mary's School Inter-House Sports Meet in the school padang?  May be not for some and this photo serves to bring back your memories.

Most would  have better and more vivid memories of the Inter School Sports Meet in the Town Padang. Wow during the Inter School Sports Meet... St Cecelia girls would cheer for St Mary's athletes and St Mary's boys would do likewise for Cecelians. And ususally, St Cecelia and St Mary's schools were seated next to each other on the grand stand. Lots of confetti raining down and you could always cast your confetti in the direction of your favourite girls.

Our school arch enemies at the Inter School Sports Meet were St Michaels and later Sung Siew School (including some hot heads ex St Marians who could not go onto St Mary's Form IV and V and had to join Sung Siew Form IV and V instead.)

One famous St Micahel female athlete was "Golden Hair" (Catherine Chae).

Popular St Cecelia girls who attracted  a lot of confetti cast by our classmates included Lai Man Thing, Rita Garnica, Janet Lee, Bridgit Chin, Catherine Chang, Bernadette Kan, Patsy Poon, Felicity Khoo, Mimi Shim and others.

Folks feel free to add your favourite girls' names in! ... Also, where are these dream girls now ?

Let us go back to the topic... its our Inter House Sports Meet we have to talk about - an all Boys affair! Boring, ......isn't it! The photo was on the Yellow House Pavilion. Chu Sai Kee, as you all know, was our star High Jumper. Not sure what Victor Sin and James Chai were good in? They appeared more like coaches than athletes.

Hidden inside the tent was a smiling Frederick Ong! No athlete himself but he is our only classmate who went on to become a Doctor (from University of Liverpool).

We always looked forward to the Inter School Sports Meet then as students but now I do not think any of us, as parents, would bother to turn up at our children Inter-School or Inter-House Sports Meet!

Our interests have navigated away to other more interesting pursuits.

This is really amazing, Clement,u sure do process a photographic memory. Are u human???
If u ask me what I had for dinner 2 days ago, I have to scratch my head & think real hard(may be that's why I am losing my hairs) let along had vivid memories & remember names some 40 yrs back. Now u know why I am a bum & ur a big honcho.
Yeh, I remembered the Golden Hair chick, she was back then every teenage boys' fantasy & happened to be my cousin's girl friend. He lives in Dallas Texas now & they didn't end up together.
The only Cecelia gal that strikes me most is Felicity Khoo cos of her elder sis Rebecca Khoo..what happen to her, anybody ? I think Camillo had a crush on her. She was one of my dream gal but I was too wimpy & don't have the gut to approach her, should have consult our honorable Tommy S, he has no shame & full of lover boy's tricks.

Hi Ronnie,

Nice to hear from you again... I now know what can trigger off a response from you - names of your dream girls!

Hubert is usually very quick with comments on new postings. But he is conspicuously silent on this one. Out of concern for his safety, I had already refrained from mentioning Hubert's dream girls in my posting on Sports Meet as there is always that danger Hubert's better half may be surfing our blog to unearth Hubert's past conquests which rivalled Tommy!

I like your description of Tommy Siew - he has always been a magnet to girls and women alike. He is indeed the envy of many (I did NOT say ALL)!

Tommy is just back from KL but is now a "caged bird" as his wife is back with him in Sabah from Vancouver for "a long stay" (her words). He is no longer a free man and is now always seen everywhere in town with his loving wife in tow!

At the rate things are going, Tommy will soon propose to form a "Hen Pecked Husbands Club" for all of us ... and Tommy wants to nominate Hubert as its well deserved First Chairman and also Honorary Life Chairman.

Hooray to the Class of 1970 as we can now seek shelter in this new club of ours!

1. It's never too late to have my say after almost 1/2 year. We are all talking about the remote past anyway. Plus, we have run of things to talk about anyway.

2.Well, my dream girls: St. Michael's Yun Yun, daughter of the Sunny Estate developer? Then there is Patsy Poon, not dream girl as such but did chat with her and exchanged records with her Doors (song: Hello I love you).

3. I also know Golden Hair but my contacts with her were on more serious occasions viz. gospel meetings held in her cousin's house during my high school days. Would appreciate it if anyone could help me to get in touch with her for the gospel's sake.

4. Richard Chan should know the whereabouts of Rebecca/Felicity Khoo. By the way, Richard, I still cannot trace Benjamin Chan in HK, supposedly been here since a long time ago.

5. How's the henpecked club coming up? Is Tommy still enjoying the comfort of a cage free from vices
and viruses?
