Hi,
This is indeed another memorable photo from Victor Sin!
Was it a "send off" for Bro Raphael (Goldfinger) at Sandakan Airport? Or was it sending Bro Aiden or Bro Frederick off?
James Chai was facing the camera but also noticed Edward Chik and Albert Koh Chiat Hong were in the "send off" crowd.
We can also see the face of an Indain teacher... could not remember what subjects he was teaching us or whether he taught in Form 4 or Form 5 Science classes.
All our Form 5 1970 old boys have fond memories of Bro Raphael and this blog password in his honour is a testament of his bearing on all of us.
On Bro Aiden, he taught us Scripture (and English Literature?) in Arts Stream class. Usually, he just walked around the class asking one after another to stand up and read paragraphs from the Gospel According to St Luke (or was it Acts of Apostles?) He resembled David McCallum, an actor in " The Man from U.N.C.L.E" - a James Bond type of movie. Standing next to Bro Aiden, in dark glasses (as it was then the James Bond era) was Victor Sin .

Sir, Thank You .... for all those memories and for coming all the way from Ireland to educate us, all those Murderers of the English Language, in Ulu Sandakan.

The Indian teacher taught us Maths but can't remember his name. I have no idea who the big man is with his back facing the camera, neither the two guys between the Indian teacher and Edward Chik. I can't even remember if I was there to bid farewell to Goldfinger.
Incidentally, on the plane to London recently, I watched "Goldfinger" and indeed the villain did resemble Bro Raphael - no wonder he was given that nickname.

Hubert
Hubert,
Don't you think the partially hidden face next to Edward Chik is Victor Ng Jong Fui?
The big man with his back to the camera could be Bro Peter Ng (in La Salle when I was there for Form 6) who later became Principal of St Mary's?
Not sure if Victor dateline ( early 1971) is correct. I was a temporary Teacher in St Mary's Sec School for afternoon Remove Class together with Edward Chik & Tommy Siew)before doing my Form 6 in La Salle KK which started in April 1971. Therefore from January- April 1971, I was in St Mary's as a Temporary Teacher.
But Edward was with me in La Salle in KK but he was at the airport! Maybe Victor Sin is correct on early 1971.
Anyone can place a date on that farewell?
The partially hidden face could be Victor Ng and the man next to him could be the late Mr Goh Cheng Wah (Wong Fui Hung). The big man dosen't look like Br. Peter Ng who is quite slim. To me he looks like Father Scoores(Spelling ????)from St. Mary's (Town)I can confirmed that iw was in early 1971for I remembered for KL in May 1971

It suddenly strike my mind. Is the Indian Teacher in the picture be Mr. Mathews ??. I remembered he taught Maths too. Can anyone chip in something....

Ka Hiew,
My memory tells me that Matthews is the name of the Physics teacher. The Indian teacher you referred to in the photo is definitely our Additional Maths teacher in the higher form, but can't remember his name - his nickname though is Lamda because in the first lesson or so, he talked a lot about "lamda", the sign which serves more or less the same purpose as "x" in Algebra.
Come on guys from the Science Stream, you should help out in this memory recollection exercise!
Rgds,Hubert
